A little bit about me, and why I do what I do

If you’ve found your way here, I’m really glad you’re here.

I’m Becky, a midwife with a deep love for calm, intuitive, holistic care in pregnancy and birth. My work has always been about supporting women to feel safe, informed and connected to their bodies… but the path that brought me here started long before I qualified as a midwife.

I was 17 when I first discovered aromatherapy. I was studying Health and Social Care at the time, and one of our modules touched on alternative therapies. I still remember how it felt learning about it… something just clicked. The idea that we could support the body gently, naturally, and in a way that worked with it rather than against it really stayed with me.

That interest never left.

When I went on to train as a midwife, I found myself being drawn back to those same ideas. For my dissertation, I chose to explore alternative methods of pain relief during labour, focusing particularly on aromatherapy and acupuncture. I wanted to understand not just how they worked physically, but how they influenced a woman’s experience of birth. What I found only deepened what I already felt.

That birth doesn’t need to be something to fear.

That the body is incredibly capable.

And that when women feel supported, calm and informed, everything can change.

But I also saw the gaps.

In the NHS I saw how many women felt overwhelmed, disconnected, or unsure of their choices. I saw how clinical environments, while often necessary, didn’t always meet the emotional and holistic needs of women during pregnancy.

And I knew I wanted to offer something more.

So in 2017, I trained in complementary therapies specifically for pregnancy. It felt like everything had come full circle—from that first aromatherapy module at 17, to becoming a midwife, to finally being able to bring those two worlds together.

That’s when I created Holistic Pregnancy Care.

For me holistic therapies aren’t just about relaxation (although that’s a big part of it). They’re about creating space. Space for women to slow down, to breathe, to reconnect with themselves and their baby.

Through treatments like aromatherapy massage, reflexology, moxibustion and natural induction techniques, I support the body in a gentle, respectful way. It’s never about forcing anything… it’s about working with the body’s natural rhythms.

And what I love most is the change I see in women. From feeling anxious to feeling calmer. From feeling unsure to feeling more confident. From feeling like things are happening to them, to feeling more involved and in control.

That’s why I do this work.

Because every woman deserves to feel supported, heard and nurtured during her pregnancy.

And to know that there are options. That there is another way. That birth can be approached with calm, trust and understanding.

If you’re here, you’re already taking a step towards that.

And I’m really honoured to be part of your journey.

While complementary therapies can offer benefits to pregnancy, they should not replace standard midwifery care and should be used with caution and under the guidance of qualified professionals. It's crucial to inform your healthcare provider, including your midwife or doctor, about any complementary therapies you're considering or using during pregnancy.
